Great summer concerts to check out

With the amazing summer weather around us, it’s time to check out the beautiful outdoor venues North Carolina has to offer. Here are some of this summer’s must-see shows near Chapel Hill.

Wednesday, May 23 – Dave Matthews Band, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater:
The always popular summertime jam band and college favorite, Dave Matthews Band returns to the stage this summer with their first tour since 2010. After making his way to Memorial Hall for a guest spot on Live with Jimmy Fallon, Dave will lead his band to Charlotte for what should be splendid evening of fun dancing and rock ‘n’ roll.

Wednesday, June 20 – Drake, Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek:
Rap music superstar and global icon Drake will be joined by local North Carolinian J. Cole and new rappers Meek Mill and Waka Flocka Flame. If you are a fan of rap music, this concert will promise to deliver in full force.

Sunday, July 22 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and Wednesday, July 25 at Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek – 311 and Slightly Stoopid:
Every summer there are the bands that come out of hibernation to make their way around some of the nation’s finest and best outdoor venues. These two bands cater to a specific audience — anyone who wants to relax and chill to summertime grooves.

Saturday, August 4 – Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Time Warner Cable Music pavilion at Walnut Creek:
What could be better than seeing two of the southern rock legends at the beautiful outdoor Walnut Creek? Nothing. This concert will feature some of the most classic southern rock songs that everyone can sing-along to. Guitar legend Santana will also play as well. This should be a ridiculously fun concert.

Sunday, August 26 – Phish, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater:
The gods of jam and improvisation take their talents to Charlotte for the second summer in an row right when Fall semester is starting up. What better way to ease into classes than taking a trip to the gorgeous outside venue to see the four Vermont boys play? This concert promises to be an unbelievably special night. After all, it will take a special performance to top last summer’s extravaganza.
