Americans have a huge enthusiasm when it comes to any type of holidays, and it can be scary sometimes.
Christmas decorations, Christmas food, Christmas ugly sweaters — another life-changing item - and Christmas songs start to take over the country as soon as Thanksgiving is over. People literally replace their pumpkins for their Christmas tree during Thanksgiving weekend. They're just so ~festive~, they can't wait.
I've also noticed the insane amount of Christmas lights and decorations that the fraternities have put up in their houses and front yards. IT'S OVERWHELMING. But I Iike that everyone's festive spirit is contagious and I've also discovered a few Christmas movies, like Elf, that I'm going to be watching non-stop throughout the holidays. So everybody wins.
The worst part of all of this is that the closer we get to Christmas, the sooner I'm going to leave America. Because I'm leaving soon, guys. VERY soon. That's why the thought of Christmas for me this year is very bittersweet.
This is my last post for the Daily Tar Heel and I couldn't be more sad. I'm no longer going to be Culture Shocked, or maybe I will when I come back to Spain and there are no Lucky Charms or Pop Tarts around. Thank you for those, America.
Christmas is a time for being appreciative and thankful for what you have, and I'm thankful for this amazing experience, for learning so many valuable things from the American culture and its people.
So, thank you.
