How to handle the 2016 UNC dorm hoverboard ban

As technology continues to advance, our generation has just arrived at the pinnacle of all invention — hoverboards.

Hoverboard

/hoverboard/

noun

  1. a levitating board used for personal transportation in the films Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III. Hoverboards resemble a skateboard without wheels.

Hoverboards, with wheels, began as a fairly harmless trend among big celebrity names like Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner, who each posted pictures with an IO Hawk (hoverboard) upon their first release, eventually fueling their extreme popularity.

Since then, they have become an overwhelming must-have for athletes on campus, and pretty much anyone who has money to spend on modern-day Heelys that have lights.

As expected, all good things must come to an end.

Unfortunately, UNC dorms were not down with the number of punctured toes and scraped arms from epic falls resulting from riding the high-powered scooters. So they eventually decided hoverboards just shouldn’t really be a part of move-in packing lists anymore, as of Jan. 8.

This came as a sad surprise for many of the students on campus because I’d say after toothpaste, soap and face wash, hoverboards were a solid number four on the packing list.

But now, students are just left with an empty space in their hoverboard cases of what could have been amazing bonding time with all of the cyclists on campus. As well as the unfortunate burden of actually walking to class.

Here are a few ways to get around now that hoverboards are gone:

1. Real Heelys

In reality, Heelys never went out of style; we just stopped appreciating them for their greatness.

2. Segways

They're pretty much hoverboards with a handle that cause fewer accidents aside from the one time a Segway company owner drove his off a cliff. Not a big deal.

3. A friend and a blanket

Simple concept. Very Aladdin. Obviously Effective.

Have your friend pull you around on a blanket everywhere until they get tired of you or the blanket rips.

Warning: These things are likely to happen simultaneously.

4. Skateboards

There are multiple ways to ride them with minimal balance necessary, creating a perfect way to get around campus without scaring the people you ride by too much.

5. Rolling chairs

Although they may flip upon contact with large bricks, they are a perfect way to get to class downhill, and an amazing way to work your calf muscles going uphill on the way to class.

Tip: Place chair by bikes before going into class to avoid looks.
