An open letter to cereal

I love cereal
So full of two percent milk
Make sure it stays crisp

— Trei Alexander Council, famous first-century cereal poet

Dear Cereal,

We’ve been through a lot together — from my first semester of 8 a.m. classes to late night snacks to Sunday morning brunch. Through it all, through the ever-shifting and constantly changing landscape that is life, you’ve been there for me — unchanged.

When I think about all the times you’ve comforted me after a rough test, or helped me study for said rough test, I realize that I never really told you how much I appreciate you.

Even when we’re apart and don’t see each other for a few days, I know that I can always count on you. You’ve never let me down.

You’re just so free of drama, and I love that about you. No matter what other types of cereal I mix you with, or what kind of milk, you never complain or get jealous. You support my life choices unconditionally.

So I just want to take this moment to say, simply, I love you. I always have, and I always will. Even though the world (nutrition labels) may try to tear us apart, know that I am always in your corner.

Sincerely,

Someone whose love for you is greater than her love for any other food on the face of the entire planet and whose love is true and undying even under the gravest of circumstances
