A quarter-cent per dollar sales tax will reappear for voter approval on Orange County’s Nov. 8 ballot after failing to pass last year.

The tax would affect some retail goods and could bring in an estimated revenue of $2.3 million that would be split evenly between education funding and economic development.

Sareera Thompson, who declined to have her photo taken, has lived in Chapel Hill for about 14 years and said she opposes the tax.

“I need every penny I’m getting,” she said. “I don’t think it would be that much of an effect in a good way if they did do it.”
