U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, officially announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential race at Liberty University last week — and he remains the only major candidate to have officially declared a run.

Cruz was a big subject on social media and news organizations throughout last week, but not just for his announcement or his policies — but for what many believed was him rehearsing kissing his wife before the big announcement at the university last week.

Photos of his walk-through and kiss were taken by the Associated Press and quickly went viral.

Jon Stewart also joked about it in a segment of the “Daily Show.”

“The stakes were high. But Cruz’s level of preparation, higher,” said Stewart in a segment last Monday.

Many discussed the kiss on social media, and they debated whether or not it was rehearsed or simply spontaneous and an act of affection.

@igorbobic Seriously, he’s practicing kissing his wife? Would think that could be spontaneous?

Only you think he's practicing that kiss. I see him taking time out to kiss his dear wife.@timwegener @igorbobic

Whatever the case, Ted Cruz probably wishes this photo of his kiss with his wife right before his speech at Liberty University came out better.
