Public breakups are the worst — especially when live tweeted to an audience of more than 27,800 followers, as a Raleigh-based couple recently learned.
Giving new meaning to the word “trapped” for all passengers aboard, on Aug. 23 a man allegedly broke up with his girlfriend on a plane before it even left the runway.
Seated next to the couple’s very public, very awkward breakup was New York-based Kelly Keegs — on Twitter as @keegs141 — who saw an opportunity and seized it.
Keegs began live-tweeting the ordeal (with photos included), and it soon went viral. “This guy on the plane just broke up w his girlfriend and she’s SOBBING,” Keegs tweeted. Soon after, the hashtag #PlaneBreakup began trending on Twitter.
Spoiler alert: the break up ends with a make out and lots of complimentary airline vodka. Happy traveling, folks.
