Marijuana, the most commonly used illicit substance in America according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, may gain limited medical legalization pending an ongoing bill in the North Carolina General Assembly. Should this bill pass, the potential for full legalization in North Carolina may also be on the horizon for future legislation. As suggested by a 2014 article by The New England Journal of Medicine, as Marijuana gains legal status, it is likely that negative consequences may also increase.
