Last Monday, 15 sophomores at UNC were selected as scholars to join the Morehead-Cain class of 2026 in an unprecedented step announced by the Morehead-Cain Foundation earlier this fall.The Morehead-Cain Scholars Program, the first merit scholarship program established in the United States, traditionally only offered a full-ride college scholarship to incoming first-year UNC students.

On Wednesday, the Committee on Academic Freedom and Free Expression convened virtually to make recommendations on campus-wide free speech six days after a pro-Palestine demonstration occurred on the steps of Wilson Library. The Committee discussed a commitment to institutional neutrality, clarified legalities surrounding the demonstration and considered making guidelines regarding free speech on campus clearer.

At the UNC Board of Governors meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14, board members elected to maintain undergraduate tuition rates at UNC System schools for an eighth consecutive year.
