Greg Hohn has been with Transactors Improv for 30 years. As the group’s director since 1996 and professor of Applied Improv at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School for 20 years, he’s personally seen the local comedy scene change.
Eddie Watkins was a prominent figure in the Chapel Hill music scene for over two decades. He helped form the band Polvo in 1990 while attending UNC. Polvo went on to tour North America multiple times, as well as the United Kingdom and Europe. He also played in three other local bands — Frosted Sugar Bombs, Dr. Powerful and Stranger in the Valley of the Kings.
Mihir Shah has been writing “The Law of Dreams” over the last year. He’s one of eight seniors in the Writing for the Screen and Stage minor who will have their plays performed at the ninth annual Long Story Shorts One Act Festival. His play is a two-person show that focuses on a brother and sister, and Mihir himself will be acting in the lead role.
Steve Baker has been working in music his entire life. He is a trumpet player and vocalist for Bull City Syndicate, a Durham-based variety act that originally formed in 1993. He has played in the Triangle area for years, including Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro. But his show on Halloween night will be particularly special.
Recreation coordinator Andrea Hicks has been with Durham Parks and Recreation for three years, which is as long as Fright Night has been going on. However, this year she is finally getting the chance to plan and coordinate the family-friendly fall event.
Jaime Gonzalez and Alexander Strecker are Duke Ph.D. students who write and think critically about photography, but they felt like there has been little public conversation about the topic.
"Rosas danst Rosas," a postmodern dance performance, is coming to Carolina Performing Arts for its Chapel Hill debut. The performances will be held on Oct. 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Jazz musicians Mark Tonelli and Stephen Anderson met each other two decades ago while studying music at the University of North Texas, but it’s been seven years since they last saw each other. A performance at UNC on Sept. 26 will finally bring them back together.
