Junior Virginia Sparks was studying abroad in Cairo when the protests began, but was able to return in time to take classes this semester at UNC. She is an Asian studies major with a concentration in Arab culture.
Ron Strauss, executive associate provost and the new chief international officer, still dedicates time twice a week to the UNC Craniofacial Center. Strauss meets with children and their parents to discuss care plans and also participates in an interdisciplinary collaboration in which doctors of various fields develop a wholistic care plan for patients.
The Student Union's latest gallery display features poster advertisements for Cat's Cradle over the years, created by local artist and musician Ron Liberti. Liberti is a Chapel Hill resident and has been providing graphic art for Cat's Cradle for over 15 years. His work has been featured in about 30 art shows and numerous publications. These posters are available for $20.
Sophomore Hannah Wenberger, the Puppies in the Pit coordinator, sits with playful Dipstick in the Pit on Tuesday afternoon to attract students to Dance Marathon recruitment. "We usually try to have puppies in the pit at least once a week," she said. "Usually on Mondays, except when campus organizations ask us to support them." The puppies, like Dipstick and his two brothers, come from Orange County Animal Shelter. Many students swarmed around the puppy pin. "Shameless," said freshman Jesse Enterline. "Luring people to dance marathon with puppies. It's brilliant."
As part of the Connected Learning Program, students involved in Eco-Art put together a recyclable monster from materials found in a dumpster in order to advocate for recycling and environmental sustainability.
