In January, the UNC Board of Trustees unveiled the School of Civic Life and Leadership – a new school within the College of Arts and Sciences. A resolution to accelerate the creation of the program was passed on Jan. 26 without the prior knowledge of faculty.

He’s instinctive, gritty, hard-working – a servant-leader. The idea of the hometown hero turned all-American has become a cultural icon. As such, the image of what a quarterback "should" be is deeply entrenched in the racial and cultural bias of the nation.

You don't need to be an art major to see the lack of color on our campus. The warm ivory walls of the dormitory, the grayish walls of the lecture rooms, the plain oak doors. There's no fuchsia nor is there any deviation from the general color palette that we see in every academic building.

Every now and then, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get coursework done. We roll out of bed, caffeinate and head to one of two sites: Canvas or Sakai. These two websites are the foundation of our education at UNC, and have recently become pillars of the American college experience, right along with not having enough meal swipes and sleeping through 8 a.m. classes.

At schools like UNC, there are thousands of students pursuing the same hyper-competitive fields like medicine, computer science and public health. But not everyone finishes with these degrees. There is a system present to make sure only a select best will be able to succeed, and it starts with weed-out classes.
