The UNC comedy scene is getting a makeover. Creatives of Color will be presenting their showcase, “Comedy in Color” April 12 at 8 p.m. at the TOPO Back Bar. The showcase will feature comedians of color from UNC and the Triangle.

I went clubbing not one night, but two nights this past weekend. On Friday, Feb. 23, I saw Palms Trax and Solar at Elsewhere, a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York. On Saturday, Feb. 24, I went to another nightclub called Good Room, featuring Antenes, Sofia Kourtesis, Amourette and Justin Strauss.

The UNC Clef Hangers' full-length album, Fixate, and single, "Castle on the Hill," have received seven nominations for the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.

A local band signed to Cardigan Records, propersleep, is performing at Slim’s Downtown in Raleigh this Friday at 9 p.m. Their sound is reminiscent of the emo and pop-punk sound from the 2000s. It's almost nostalgic, reminding you of the days when you’d blast CDs in your room by Paramore, Fall Out Boy or Taking Back Sunday, and your mom would ask you to turn the music down. Their EP, "Transitions," was released in August of 2017, and propersleep’s full-length record is expected to be released later this year.

Carolina Performing Arts will kick off their new venue CURRENT ArtSpace + Studio with a special installation by Paul Dresher on Feb. 2. His installation, “Sound Maze” is interactive, inviting an audience of all ages and musical backgrounds to play large instruments created by the ensemble, scattered around the room.

I went to Kelela’s sold-out concert in Durham last Friday night. Her debut album, “Take Me Apart,” was released on Oct. 6. She is redefining R&B with her electronic influence, and she's not afraid to delve into the themes of love and sex that are so intrinsic to R&B.

Thomas Mira y Lopez is the UNC-Chapel Hill Kenan Visiting Writer for 2017-2018 and teaches in the English department. He will be reading from his new book, “The Book of Resting Places,” Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Flyleaf Books at 7 p.m.

The John and June Allcott Gallery in Hanes Art Building will host "Footnotes (revisions)" from Nov. 9 to Dec. 5. The exhibition will showcase student activist groups that narrate the history of Carolina Hall and materials from the Wilson Library.

The Zine Machine Printed Matter Festival will highlight local artists this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Durham. The festival will feature all forms of printed matter, including zines, comics, prints and books, in addition to talks by artists. This is its third year and the event is free of charge.

This Friday and Saturday night, the UNC Pauper Players will host their third annual "Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the Varsity Theatre. Each night, the first show will begin at 9:30 and the second at midnight. The tickets are now sold out.

Julien Baker, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter, made her debut in 2015 with her album "Sprained Ankle," with plans to release her follow-up album, "Turn Out the Lights," later this month.Her lyrics and voice are passionate, honest and unrelenting. She performed at Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw on Friday.

Chapel Hill will be hosting the 45th annual Festifall Arts Festival from 12 to 6 p.m. this Sunday. The event will feature food trucks, local artists, performers and other forms of interactive entertainment. The festival welcomes people of all ages.
