COLUMN: How to hack college
Welcome to the spectacle that is UNC, kids. Apparently, someone thought it would be a good idea to have ME, of all people, give advice about college. I have to laugh.

Welcome to the spectacle that is UNC, kids. Apparently, someone thought it would be a good idea to have ME, of all people, give advice about college. I have to laugh.
As I sat on the grounds of my beloved university, listening to anti-racist heroes share personal stories of institutional racism and police brutality on campus, I noticed dozens of students walking past, not caring enough to stop and listen. I overheard people behind me loudly discussing LDOC and the impending stress of finals as Tamia Sanders, co-chairperson of UNC Black Congress, nearly broke down in tears while speaking about the emotional weight of being a Black student on campus.
HBO’s "Veep" is a masterpiece far ahead of its time. Selina Meyer is, technically, a Democrat, but her political views and morals might as well be nonexistent. Meyer could be a Democrat, Republican, Green Party member, whatever. The humor arises not from her beliefs, but from the dysfunction common to politics in general. It’s for this reason that "Veep's" spiritual predecessor "The Thick of It" was able to utilize the same style of humor in its portrayal of both the British liberal and conservative parties.
Abortion has been a deeply controversial topic in American politics for decades, and now, it’s coming to a theater near you. The faith-based film “Unplanned” tells the story of Planned Parenthood worker turned pro-life activist Abby Johnson — one of the youngest clinic directors in the country until she resigned after witnessing an abortion on ultrasound.
This week, UNC Student Government and the UNC-Chapel Hill Mental Health Coalition will host its first Mental Health Awareness Week to promote mental health awareness and education on campus.
The Elevator Queen has decided to abdicate her throne, and we should all rejoice. Last week, North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry announced she thankfully won’t run for a sixth term in 2020. Berry, who in 2005 implemented a rule requiring her picture to be displayed in elevators statewide, is universally beloved by North Carolinians who have gotten accustomed to seeing her face every time they need a lift.
The end of the year is within reach, and people are starting to decide on their next steps. From prestigious internships to exciting study abroad programs, everyone seems to have something big in store for them this summer.
Earlier this week, Sunrise Movement, an organization fighting to stop climate change, shared a video of young activists asking Senator Dianne Feinstein to vote for the Green New Deal to support environmental justice.
Writer's note: Paige says this article is NOT AT ALL influenced by the fact that Alec roasted her on Twitter or played a prank on her for The Lion King viewpoints.
When we think of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, most of us picture a hyperactive kid – probably a boy – who has more energy than they know what to do with.
In the past decade, fertility rates in the United States have dropped dramatically. Young adults, specifically college graduates, experienced the greatest decrease in fertility rates, largely due to cultural and economic factors. The Editorial Board was intrigued by this finding and decided to ask some of its female members about their opinions on having children after graduation.
My first semester at The Daily Tar Heel has been a wild one. But throughout all the chaos that has defined it, one thing has remained constant: the dedication of DTH reader Mark_B.
Vanity Fair recently published an article titled, “‘They say we’re white supremacists’: Inside the strange world of conservative college women,” a truly fitting end to this semester. The article profiled four conservative women on UNC’s campus and the “oppression” they feel from the liberal student body and faculty. Their article is reminiscent of the many profiles about “Middle America” and the “silent majority,” providing these underrepresented groups a platform and sympathy for voting for a morally corrupt presidential candidate.

Twenty-five years after the release of "The Lion King," Disney is giving us a remake. How’s that for the circle of life, am I right? No? OK, I’ll stop.
Have you ever woken up dreading the long walk to North Campus, but worried that the bus wouldn’t get you to class in time?
To slow walkers, to talkers,
If, like me, you’re a fan of "Parks and Recreation," you're familiar with Ben Wyatt. At the age of 18, he was elected mayor of his Minnesota town despite having zero qualifications for the job. Unsurprisingly, his few months in office were a disaster. He bankrupted the city by spending all its money on a winter sports complex he christened “Ice Town,” earning him the nickname of “Ice Clown.”
We believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
