It’s safe to say that my favorite holiday has always been Halloween. I loved trick-or-treating on my street when I was in grade school. I loved carving pumpkins to make big, orange jack-o'-lanterns, which I would later smash to pieces because of my destructive 12-year-old boy brain. I loved taking inventory of my candy on a spreadsheet so I could detect thievery by my sibling and parents.
2020 has been one long, insufferable, sour note. I would give you a recap, but we’re all exhausted, and plus, you’ve seen the headlines. You know what’s been happening. To be quite honest, there have been few things to keep me motivated and going. However, one of the things I turn to when I’m feeling depleted and need rejuvenation is music.
I had just finished embarrassingly weeping after watching Issa and Lawrence get back together in the latest episode of “Insecure” in May. As I wiped my tears, I heard singing, “Where is my shot glass? Can’t you see I’m taking shots?” It was a colorful trailer for a new series called “I May Destroy You.” I honestly had no idea what this show was about, but I saw Black characters and the brilliant Michaela Coel, so I was already sold.
