UNC to host weeklong comedy festival

The CUAB Comedy Festival has expanded to include a week’s worth of laughs from local and national talent. It will feature multiple workshops with writers and performers of NBC’s weekly “Saturday Night Live,” interspersed with the Student Stand-Up Competition and an improv night with local favorite Dirty South Improv Comedy Theater.

Chapel Hill sculptor Dan Murphy has displayed his work in the Union Gallery before. But his high creative energy means this current collection of gold and silver metal sculptures is something completely different. The exhibition is part of the Carolina Union Activities Board’s efforts to offer more 3-D art in its galleries.

CUAB’s Big Boi concert sees fast ticket sales

Tickets for Wednesday’s Big Boi concert in Memorial Hall are almost completely sold out — as of six p.m. Tuesday only one seat remained. The concert, put on by the Carolina Union Activities Board, is something that the board has been looking forward to for a while, organizers said.

Raised rental fees and incomplete facilities have not deterred campus groups from taking advantage of the recently renovated Historic Playmakers Theatre. The theater will host a variety of performances from multiple campus groups now that renovations to the building are partially complete.

Passion Pit homecoming concert sells out at UNC

Lit by swirling spotlights and a colorful array of lasers, a crowd of nearly 4,500 students packed into Carmichael Arena for Friday’s Homecoming concert, which concert organizers say was sold out. Concert costs — augmented by the addition of security and Union production staff fees — were slightly higher than original estimates, and organizers said the Carolina Union Activities Board stands to lose money on the concert, which was funded mostly by student activity fees.

Passion Pit will bring a unique vibe to campus

An exuberant melody will fill the air on Friday night in Carmichael Auditorium as Passion Pit takes the stage. The electropop band with an indie feel will perform as the feature of this year’s UNC Homecoming concert. The Homecoming board, which consists of the Carolina Athletic Association and the Carolina Union Activities Board, is well on it’s way to redemption following last year’s event that many deemed a disappointment.
