Ira Glass visits UNC, charms Memorial Hall

Soon after he started out in radio, Ira Glass “invented” the perfect storytelling formula.Friends have since pointed out that he isn’t the first to have cracked the secret of narrative storytelling. Not that the popular public radio host likes to admit that.“I personally invented this, not Jesus,” Glass said, eventually acknowledging that the structure of Jesus Christ’s parables bear some resemblance to the style of stories featured on “This American Life.”

Fabolous selected for Homecoming concert

Hip-hop artist Fabolous will perform Sunday as the headliner for the Homecoming 2009 concert.The announcement came today, and tickets are on sale now at the Memorial Hall Box Office and online at memorialhall.unc.edu. Tickets are $15 for students and $30 for the general public. General public tickets go on sale on Thursday.

CUAB to offer varied programs

Only one group brings films, air guitar championships and LocoPops to campus: the Carolina Union Activities Board. CUAB uses student fees to fund all of its programing and brings a variety of activities to campus. “Each student has paid for what our group puts on,” said Amanda Kao, CUAB president. “We make it our job to bring diverse, fun activities so everyone can enjoy them.” There are 18 committees as part of the group, specializing in areas from film to aesthetic expression.

Junior Chosen as New CUAB President

The Carolina Union Activities Board this weekend selected junior Charles Phaneuf as its president for the 2002-03 school year.Using about 3 percent of all student fees, CUAB is responsible primarily for arranging and promoting events that have brought nationally renowned groups such as Vertical Horizon and The Roots to the UNC campus in recent years.
