The Carrboro Town Council unanimously approved improvements to Westwood Cemetery and Old Carrboro Cemetery in a meeting on Feb. 7. The $135,000 in funds will be allocated for new fencing and erosion prevention, among other improvements. The council is also discussing adding passive recreation activities, such as a walking trail.

Rev. Troy Harrison of St. Joseph CME Church and UNC Professor Della Pollock founded the Marian Cheek Jackson Center in 2007 to preserve the oral history of the Northside neighborhood.
