Williamson Decision Pleases Psychiatrists

Physicians are breathing a sigh of relief after the state Court of Appeals overturned a jury verdict that held the psychiatrist who treated former UNC law student Wendell Williamson liable for Williamson's 1995 shooting spree on Henderson Street.The unanimous Dec. 19 ruling overturned the 1998 jury decision that found former Student Health Service psychiatrist Myron Liptzin negligent in his treatment of Williamson, who has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic.

Court Reverses KSU Censorship

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit last Friday reversed a lower court's decision that upheld the confiscation of Kentucky State University's yearbook by campus administrators.In November 1994, KSU officials confiscated about 2,000 copies of the 1993-94 KSU student yearbook, "The Thorobred."University officials objected to the the book's purple cover -- KSU's school colors are green and gold -- its "Destination Unknown" theme, the lack of captions under many of the photos, and the inclusion of current events unrelated to KSU.

Workers Lay Foundation For New South Campus

South Campus construction is expected to gain steam this week as workers begin to lay foundations for the new residence hall communities.A construction update by the UNC Department of Housing and Residential Education said major earthmoving work has been finished at the communities adjacent to Morrison, Craige and Ehringhaus residence halls.But Ed Willis, director of construction management, said there is no definite completion time slated for the foundation construction because the work is not completed in specific phases."We really don't measure it in that great of detail," he said.

Though Tee Pruitt claims he wants fairness for all, his actions tell otherwise. He claims that the goal of his ticket distribution plan is to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to get seats. And for now, this is how he defines fairness. But then there is the issue of Saturday's distribution.Here, 100 people were mistakenly given bracelets that were not in the bracelet number range. To "compensate," the Carolina Athletic Association decided to assign these people new numbers. What the CAA failed to take into account is how that would affect these people.
