A year ago on Friday, two cyclists were struck and killed on 15-501. In memorial, their friends painted two bicycles and rode out to the site to decorate them. Jason Merrill, from Back Alley Bikes, painted the two bicycles and helped to organize the ride. He explained that "anytime cyclists are struck, it definitely hits close to home."

Cyclists honor hit-and-run victims

To remember the two victims of a hit-and-run accident a year ago on U.S. Highway 15-501, local cyclists held a group ride Friday evening to replace painted white “ghost bikes” to mark the site of the accident.

Chapel Hill Transit receives grant for new buses

Chapel Hill Transit has received a federal grant to replace three of the 43 buses in its fleet that are more than 12 years old. The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization awarded Chapel Hill Transit more than $1 million, which will be used to purchase new buses.
