UNC cancels all spring 2020 study abroad programs

Spring 2020 study abroad programs to European countries with Level 3 (Avoid Nonessential Travel) travel advisories from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been canceled in response to the spread of coronavirus, according to a campus-wide email sent from Thursday.

Summer study abroad programs through UNC canceled

Summer 2020 study abroad programs through the University have been cancelled due to the spread of coronavirus, according to an email from Heather Ward, associate dean for Study Abroad and International Exchanges, sent Thursday and a campus-wide email sent Friday. Students who have signed study abroad contracts already will have their contracts voided and will not be charged administrative fees or other cashier-billed expenses for the program, the email said.

Second case of coronavirus reported in Chatham County

A second case of coronavirus was confirmed in North Carolina Friday. After an initial case was reported in Wake County earlier this week, the state confirmed another case in Chatham County on Friday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still needs to confirm the test, but the man who contracted the virus is in isolation at his home, according to a press release from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
