Art and flowers come together this weekend with Art in Bloom

Spring has sprung — and so has the North Carolina Museum of Art. But this isn't your average enchanted garden.  This weekend from Thursday through Sunday, the Art in Bloom festival will be held at the NCMA. Bringing color and beauty to the triangle are 50 floral arrangements from different designers and public exhibits.

Charlie Brown's music is inspired by his home and his faith

Charlie Brown, a UNC student and singer-songwriter from Banner Elk, is in the final stages of creating an album based on his “middle-of-nowhere” roots and inspired by his upbringing and faith. He hopes to debut it at Cat’s Cradle in May.  Staff writer Emily Pite spoke with Brown regarding his inspiration and the process of creation for his work.

'Tartuffe' and 'The Christians' explore truth and religion

PlayMakers Repertory Company is putting on their renditions of Molière’s "Tartuffe," adapted by David Ball and directed by Saheem Ali, and "The Christians," by Lucas Hnath and directed by Preston Lane. The plays' themes were “a search for truth.” "The Christians" will run until Saturday and "Tartuffe" until Sunday.

Paige Embry will be speaking about her new book, "Our Native Bees: North America’s Endangered Pollinators and the Fight to Save Them," at Flyleaf Books on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. Embry is from Seattle, Washington, and has a bachelor's degree in geology from Duke University and a master's degree in geology from the University of Montana.  Staff writer Chadwick Dunefsky spoke with Embry about her new book and why she considered native bees important.

Documentary follows female entrepreneurs

“She Started It,” a documentary on female entrepreneurship, will be shown for free at the CoOperative office in Graham, N.C. on Thursday at 6:30. It is the second documentary they’ve shown this year as part of an effort to raise awareness of entrepreneurship in the community.
