The Zine Machine Printed Matter Festival celebrates indie creators

The Zine Machine Printed Matter Festival will highlight local artists this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Durham. The festival will feature all forms of printed matter, including zines, comics, prints and books, in addition to talks by artists. This is its third year and the event is free of charge.

Word on the Street: Have you seen the new season of 'Stranger Things'?

The first season of Netflix's "Stranger Things" received critical acclaim and major success as it catapulted the show into the mainstream. Now, with season two released last Friday, we found out what students thought of the new season, and what they are hoping for in new episodes. Staff writer Joseph Keys asked UNC students, “Have you seen the new season of 'Stranger Things'? If so, what do you think about it? If not, what are your opinions on the show?”

School of Information and Library Sciences hosted a Harry Potter Night Friday.

SILS celebrates Harry Potter with a magical event

Most people abide by certain rules in libraries: don’t talk, whisper if you must and don’t eat or drink. A library would be the last place one would throw a party, especially the library in a highly respected school of library science.  Why then, one might ask, was the School of Information and Library Sciences (SILS) library at UNC packed with people dressed like wizards, all snacking and socializing last Friday? It was Harry Potter Night.

The Marching Tar Heels bring back the majorettes

Since 2011, the Marching Tar Heels were unable to find a single majorette skilled enough to join the band. That is, until first-year students Ava Smith and Ciara Gillis twirled onto the scene. Now the band has two baton-wielding performers for its pregame and halftime shows.

UNC eSports club hosts its biannual GameFest

Hundreds of students gathered in Sitterson Hall to game, compete and drink a lot of Monster. This weekend, the UNC eSports club — the largest special interest club in UNC — hosted its biannual event, GameFest.

Festival highlights women in film

The Sick Chick Flicks Film Festival is coming to Cary this weekend, just in time for Halloween. The festival will feature 45 independent short films of the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres — about 90 percent of which are directed by women.

St. Anthony Hall speaker series highlights North Carolina artists

St. Anthony Hall is hosting a two-hour long Speaker Series event highlighting two artists based in North Carolina at 4 p.m. this Friday. Artists Natasha Powell Walker and Susan Brubaker Knapp will be displaying their art, talking about why they are passionate about their craft and revealing how they managed to make a living creating art.
