Carolina for the Kids

UNC Dance Marathon is a yearly fundraising event that requires participants to remain on their feet for 24 hours in a no-sitting, no-sleeping challenge. Since it was founded in 1998, 10,000 students have volunteered to be a part of the event. 13 active committees work all year long to organize and publicize the event.

In 2014, UNC-DM raised $551,595.87 for N.C. Children’s Hospital. With that money, it is providing 13 different grants to kids.

They were trying their best not to collapse.More than 500 students moved to the beat of 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye," but they were a step slow, and the scene looked more like a hyperactive Generation X concert than a school dance.These were the waning moments of the UNC Dance Marathon - an annual celebration that marks the end of a year of fundraising.

Several hundred students danced the night -- and day -- away in Fetzer Gym this weekend, raising a record-high $100,289.33 for the N.C. Dance Marathon Wins Charity Game

The UNC Dance Marathon survived a full day of fund raising Saturday by calling supporters to raise more money -- $5,617 -- than nine other area charities.In a game similar to CBS' "Survivor," 10 area charities competed with each other at Performance Chevrolet, 1810 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd., to raise the most money and win a big-screen television.
