Student hit by bus on South Campus

On Thursday afternoon, a student in a wheelchair was hit by a bus at the intersection of Skipper Bowles Road and Manning Drive, by Craige residence hall on South Campus.  Randy Young, spokesman for Department of Public Safety, confirmed the student was struck by a bus and was taken to UNC hospitals.  Young said the student was alert and conscious.

Even 3,000 miles away, Chancellor Carol Folt was still involved in the decision not to cancel classes until late in the day Tuesday — but she was not the one who made the final call.

DPS investigating potentially threatening Yik Yak post made Wednesday

The Department of Public Safety is investigating a potentially threatening post made late Wednesday on Yik Yak — a location-based social media application that shows the most recent posts from anonymous users in the area. DPS spokesman Randy Young said police are looking into the situation. He said a campus-wide AlertCarolina message would be sent out soon.

On-campus drinking citations rise

The number of on-campus underage drinking citations at UNC increased by 88 percent between 2012 and 2013 — reaching 691, according to data released in the 2014 Annual Campus Security Report.
