Faculty Council discusses process to create new schools, IDEAs in Action curriculum

In its first meeting since the UNC Board of Trustees voted to accelerate development of the School of Civic Life and Leadership, the UNC Faculty Council focused primarily on how faculty felt about the process of the school’s creation so far.  The meeting included a presentation on how the School of Data Science and Society was developed and votes to pass two resolutions regarding the Board of Trustees' actions and the IDEAs in Action curriculum.

Carrboro Recreation Department hosts Black History Month concert series

Members of the Carrboro community gathered on at the Carrboro Century Center on Sunday, Feb. 19 to listen to Finesse, a rhythm and blues band, perform for the Black History Month concert series. The Carrboro Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Resources Department organized the series — along with other events such as lectures and open mic poetry nights — to celebrate Black history and unite the community.

Eshelman Institute pursues digital health solutions for Black N.C. community

A new grant will now allow UNC’s Eshelman Institute for Innovation to help create PowerUp, an initiative to address food insecurity and mental health challenges faced by Black North Carolinians.  The institute, alongside the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Founders Initiative, will help source ideas from N.C. A&T and try to refine them into digital for-profit ventures.
