Administrators stressed to trustees the need for patience with the pace of the ongoing football investigations Thursday morning. The UNC team investigating allegations of academic misconduct has passed its findings to the student attorney general’s office, but their process won’t be complete for awhile.

NCAA rules on Burney, Williams

North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said the penalties levied by the NCAA on football players Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams are too harsh and said the University plans to appeal the rulings. Burney must sit out four more games after missing UNC’s first two, while Williams must sit two more games before returning. Both suspensions are due to the players violating NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules.

NCAA hands out suspensions to Burney, Williams

The NCAA has ruled that North Carolina football players Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams must sit out six and four games, respectively, for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules. Both players have sat out two games, which will be included in their suspension. The student-athletes received a combined $2,759 in improper benefits and will have to repay a portion of it to the a charity of their choice.

UNC falls to Georgia Tech 30-24

After battling North Carolina to a 24-24 tie at the end of the third quarter, Georgia Tech needed just two field goals in the fourth quarter to get its first ACC win of the season. Scott Blair had two field goals for the Yellow Jackets and the Tar Heels couldn’t possess the ball long enough to get any offense going in the second half.
