NRC Votes To Suspend Decision

Student body candidates stretched their limits of campaigning to the virtual realm.Candidates provided in-depth Web sites describing their ideas for campus improvement as well as revealing their personal sides, but candidates and students gave differing opinions on the impact the sites had on the election outcome and voter turnout.All the candidates' Web sites featured detailed descriptions of their platforms and attempted to show their personalities with a variety of features including pictures, favorite Web sites and biographical information.

Test at ECHHS Dance To Discourage Drinking

Before students at East Chapel Hill High School enter tonight's Valentine's Day dance, they will have to pass a test that has nothing to do with academics.School officials have decided to make each student entering the dance take a breathalyzer test to ensure they have not consumed any alcohol before arriving.The new policy stems from an incident at the school's prom two years ago when 20 to 30 students arrived drunk in vans with hired drivers. As punishment, these students were not allowed to attend the prom and were suspended from school for five days.

CityThursday, Feb. 15Carrboro police arrested Ottieree LaChaiel Farrington, 38, of 316 Vickers Road in Pittsboro, at 3:09 p.m.Reports state Farrington attempted to pay for $5 worth of gasoline at The Pantry at 500 Jones Ferry Road with a counterfeit $100 bill.Farrington was detained at a routine traffic stop after her description was released to police, reports state.She was charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses. Hitting and runs came at a premium Thursday afternoon, but with senior ace Radara McHugh on the mound, the North Carolina softball team could feel comfortable. Minnesota challenged McHugh in a double-header at Finley Field, and McHugh was up to the challenge. ECHHS: \Class Rank Should Go

East Chapel Hill High School administrators are awaiting a decision from the state that would allow the school to drop class rank from students' transcripts.ECHHS principal David Thaden said class rank is not a good indicator of the students' abilities because many ECHHS pupils are being disqualified from competitive colleges because the quality of the school system is so high."We have a strong suspicion that the kids from the bottom half of the top third of the class are dropped from the initial stages of the college admission process," Thaden said.

Chris Keldorf invested a lot of years in the pursuit of his dream.The path wasn't always a quick or smooth one, but it had its scenic stops along the way, including a renovated Kenan Stadium.
