M. Basketball: Improved attack heads to Miami

Though North Carolina's defensive effectiveness in Wednesday's 101-87 win against Duke changed drastically from one half to the next the offense went through a slightly different transition. Rather than bad to good UNC's scoring efficiency went from quite good to nearly unstoppable.

M. Basketball: Damage from Downtown

With a spread offense that makes extensive use of the drive-and-pitch maneuver it's usually the Duke Blue Devils who are associated with 3-point shooting when this rivalry rolls around.

M. Basketball: The evolution of Henderson

DURHAM — Mounted within the underbelly of Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium rests picture after picture commemorating different aspects of Duke's storied basketball program. But one photo forces a double take.

In basketball every action begins with a player's foot. It's the base of support for all of his movements and it's the first body part to greet the hardwood each time a player jumps.

M. Basketball: Starters notch 83 points for victory

RALEIGH — If North Carolina was looking for a blueprint in offensive production from its starting five Saturday's scoresheet just might be worth keeping around. Balance was the key word in UNC's 93-76 victory against rival N.C. State at the RBC Center.

Ed Davis has been the Tar Heels? most productive bench player but" as a more defensively minded player averages only seven points per game.

M. Basketball: Bench woes leave burden on Tar Heels

It's hard to find something about this edition of the No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels that isn't the envy of the rest of college basketball. One of the nation's top starting fives the reigning national player of the year and an offense explosive enough to fluster the most veteran of scorekeepers. Any coach would kill to be the caretaker of that kind of talent.

M. Basketball: Lawson's heroics lift Heels

TALLAHASSEE Fla. — In the final seconds Florida State was prepared for Tyler Hansbrough — they just weren't prepared for what came next. That would be the lightning strike that was Ty Lawson's 60-foot drive and buzzer-beating floater — a drive that started with only 3.2 seconds left and gave No. 6 North Carolina an 80-77 win against the Seminoles.

Despite coming in as an McDonald?s All America" Bobby Frasor has struggled to find rhythm after injuries his sophomore and junior years.

M. Basketball: The times and trials of Bobby Frasor

Bobby Frasor is a changed man. Not by choice mind you. But there's no denying that the senior is not the same player who stepped in as a McDonald's All-America freshman point guard and led a no-expectations North Carolina team to a 12-4 ACC record and No. 3 NCAA Tournament seed.

Deon Thompson has improved offensively and defensively in recent games" and his play against Clemson?s Trevor Booker was key to the UNC victory.

Improved Thompson aiding UNC defense

It probably wasn't the thunderous dunk that Deon Thompson had intended when Ty Lawson found him early in the second half on the break. But even though it clanged off the front rim bounced again on the side rim and then kissed off the backboard it still counted as two points. And even though it took a while to get going Thompson came out on top in the battle against Clemson's physical forward Trevor Booker.

Shooting guard Wayne Ellington has found plenty of success against Clemson in recent years" scoring a career-high 36 points in South Carolina last year. Ellington hopes to continue his shooting groove in tonight?s game.

Men's basketball: Tigers have a shot to break winless streak

Tonight college basketball's longest road losing streak gets tested once again as No. 10 Clemson travels to Chapel Hill for the 54th time to take on fifth-ranked North Carolina. This time the Tigers might just have their best shot at getting a win in Chapel Hill — and putting their 0-53 road record against the Tar Heels behind them.

Improved defense shooting lead Heels

Things looked dim. The Tar Heels seemed emotionally checked out — surprised that another ACC foe was taking it to them on their home floor. On both ends of the court Miami was outplaying North Carolina staking a 32-23 lead Saturday at the Smith Center. Was this going to be another Boston College?
