Tar Heels in overtime with College of Charleston

Charleston, S.C. — Andrew Goudelock's hurl from 35 feet found the bottom of the net with 2.1 to play and UNC is locked in an overtime struggle with College of Charleston. Goudelock has 24 points and Ed Davis has 19 for UNC.

College of Charleston leading at half

Charleston, S.C. — Andrew Goudelock and the College of Charleston Cougars opened Monday night's game with 20 minutes toe-to-toe with the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels — and so far, the Cougars are the ones on top.Adrew Goudelock and Donovan Monroe are both in double figures at the break as UNC trails, 37-36. Ed Davis leads UNC with nine points at the break.

No. 9 UNC faces College of Charleston next

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Monday against College of Charleston, No. 9 North Carolina will finally have a road game it is expected to win.The Cougars of College of Charleston provide yet another small-team challenge to UNC, which is fresh off wins against Marshall, Rutgers and Albany in Chapel Hill.

Williams questions defense as Tar Heels win

Rutgers' Michael Rosario could do nothing else. As Dexter Strickland streaked past him, Rosario recognized he couldn't catch North Carolina's speedy freshman. So he latched on to the back of Strickland's No. 10 jersey and hung on. Rosario accepted the intentional foul, and 13 minutes later had to accept defeat to the Tar Heels Monday night at the Smith Center, 81-67.

Tar Heels roll Thundering Herd 98-61

No. 10 North Carolina used a freshman in the starting lineup for the first time all season, but the result against unranked competition was the same as usual for UNC.The Tar Heels ran away from Marshall 98-61 Tuesday night, using a decisive 18-0 run near the beginning of the second half to deliver the knockout blow to the Thundering Herd.

Texas runs past Tar Heels 103-90

ARLINGTON, TX – A searing run to close the first half put No. 2 Texas in control and No. 10 North Carolina couldn’t make up the deficit in the second half, falling 103-90 to the Longhorns.The game in Cowboys Stadium was competitive throughout, but an inability to keep up with Texas (10-0) on the glass ultimately doomed the Tar Heels (8-3).

Tar Heels steamroll Blue Hose 103-64

No. 10 North Carolina (8-2) turned its first unranked opponent in nearly two weeks into nothing more than an exam study break Saturday night.Presbyterian College (2-8) was outmatched from the start.

Wildcats wall Tar Heels

Roy Williams’ North Carolina teams have always preferred turning basketball games into a 40-minute dash. Most opponents simply aren’t fast enough to keep up. But in Saturday’s 68-66 loss at No. 5 Kentucky, the Tar Heels got beat at their own game. Freshman phenom John Wall and the Wildcats ran all over No. 10 North Carolina during the first half.

Kentucky defeats North Carolina

LEXINGTON, KY — John Wall and No. 5 Kentucky ran wild in the first half, and No. 10 North Carolina's late rally fell short.Wall scored 16 points and dished out seven assists, and Patrick Patterson led Kentucky with 19 points.UNC's Deon Thompson led the Tar Heels with 14 points on 6 for 13 shooting. Will Graves had 13 and Tyler Zeller had 10.

UNC trails Kentucky 43-28 at halftime

Lexington, Ky — John Wall and Kentucky lead North Carolina at Rupp Arena, 43-28 at the half.Wall leads all scorers with 13 points and UK's Patrick Patterson has 11. no UNC player is in double figures, and Will Graves leads the Tar Heels with six points on two three-pointers. The Tar Heels have 11 turnovers so far in the game.

UNC hits the road to take on Kentucky

It’s been pitched as the race to 2000 — the two winningest programs in college basketball squaring off.In one corner, the visiting North Carolina Tar Heels with 1,991 wins. In the other, the home Kentucky Wildcats with 1,995.Neither team will be thinking much about the all-time wins record though — a revitalized Kentucky provides the first true road test for the Tar Heels.

UNC off and running in win

With a little less than 13 minutes remaining in the second half of No. 10 North Carolina’s 89-82 win against No. 9 Michigan State, MSU forward Delvon Roe beat UNC’s defense down the floor and finished an easy layup to cut the Tar Heels’ lead to 13.For the moment, at least.

Tar Heels take rematch of tourney title game

The faces were different, and the venue had changed, but one thing remained constant in Tuesday’s national championship game rematch: North Carolina still had Michigan State’s number.Just like last year, the Tar Heels got off to a fast start, scoring on each of their first five possessions.Just like last year, UNC had at least 50 points and a double-digit lead at halftime.
