Presence of 1982 national championship team helps lift Tar Heels past N.C. State

The Tar Heels beat their crosstown rival and decades-old foe, N.C. State, 100-80, on Saturday. Michael Jordan and members of the 1982 national championship team was celebrated at midcourt. And at halftime, former head coach Roy Williams was honored, and he told the crowd a phrase that summed up the afternoon: “North Carolina basketball is not about one person and certainly not one coach."

Baskets hard to come by for UNC men's basketball, but team sneaks out with the win

“As good as we are shooting, there are going to be times throughout the year and particular games where you aren’t shooting the ball well and you’re not finishing around the basket,” head coach Hubert Davis said. “You’re gonna have to get stops and have to rely on the defensive end. Towards the end when we needed a stop we got the stops and when we needed a basket we made a basket.”
