Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle Eastern studies received grant from DOE

The U.S. Department of Education has ordered UNC and Duke University to revise their joint Consortium for Middle Eastern Studies in order to continue receiving federal funding from Title VI. The Department said the UNC-Duke CMES used federal funds for purposes not outlined in Title VI and lacked balance in its instruction.

Former Miss Israel visits Hillel

Former Miss Israel Titi Aynaw spoke to a group students at N.C. Hillel. Aynaw has been to 68 college and university campuses in the U.S. to speak about everything, from her time in the military to her conversation with Obama over dinner.

Dr. Tibor Spitz presented his artwork and life story of surviving the Holocaust in the Union Auditorium in 2017. 

Tibor Spitz speaks at UNC on Holocaust experience

When he was 15 years old, Tibor Spitz crawled out of a hand built shelter, dug into the side of a hill in Slovakia, where he had spent the previous seven months hiding from the German army. 73 years later, he walked into the Student Union Auditorium to help ensure people do not forget the horrors he and other Jews went through during the Holocaust.
