'Still developing the specifics': Guskiewicz talks reopening plans in Zoom meeting

Chancellor Guskiewicz met with the Advisory Committee and Faculty Executive Committee in a joint online meeting Wednesday to answer questions about UNC's plans to reopen campus in the fall.  Attendees raised concerns about how to enforce University policies on social distancing and what would trigger an "off-ramp" course of action from the Carolina Roadmap for Fall 2020.  Concerns were also raised about how to continue to enforce University policies on social distancing when students return to campus.

UNC faculty member selected for prestigious O. Max Gardner Award

Dr. Samantha Meltzer-Brody, chairperson of UNC Department of Psychiatry and director of the UNC Center for Women Mood Disorders, was named the 2020 recipient of the O. Max Gardner Award. The award recognizes a faculty member who, during the academic year, has made the greatest contribution to the welfare of the human race.

A peer counselor at the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid gives financial advice to an incoming transfer student. Students with work study jobs are eligible for SNAP benefits, but few UNC students use the program. 

'We just want to know what’s happening': Students push for clarity on CARES Act relief aid

The University is beginning to release emergency funding from the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act for students affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, but some have criticized the administration for moving too slowly to release funds and not being transparent about the process.  Students were formally notified about the opportunity for emergency funding about a month after the University received funds from the CARES Act. The announcement was sent two days after Undergraduate Senator Lamar Richards sent a letter to the chancellor criticizing the University for not publicizing the funds and not moving quicker to release them.

Students voice concerns over University's plans to return in fall

Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz announced Thursday initial plans for UNC's return to on-campus operations for the fall semester. Since then, some students have responded with a range of concerns, including worries about their health and safety and fears of burnout and academic stress.
