'Like your family': One bad inning creates emotional end to UNC baseball season

The last day of a baseball post-season is always filled with emotion, and for the Tar Heels, the type of emotion wasn't in their favor following a loss to Auburn in the Super Regionals. North Carolina saw their season cut short after the team failed to overcome a devastating 13 run first inning by Auburn.  Head coach Mike Fox spoke after the game about the hardest part is seeing a team that he saw as a family break up at the end of the year

Column: The other side of summer

Later this week, school lets out for over 12,000 students in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. Most of these students eagerly await leisurely summers dotted with s’mores, sprinklers, and sidewalk chalk. But, for the nearly 3,500 CHCCS students receiving free or reduced price meals, there can be a very different anticipation to summer.

More student IDs can be used for voting following clarifications to voter ID law

This past week, Roy Cooper signed into law a bill that clarifies exactly what types of photo ID are eligible to be used to vote in North Carolina. Previously, there had been confusion on whether certain types of student ID cards would qualify.  The previous law required universities to have been the ones to take the photos. Now, students can submit their own photos and have their ID be eligible, as long as the university can verify the student is submitting their own photo.
