Dick Baddour just owned you, DTH.
This is in response to “Sweet southern satisfaction” (Oct 6th). But first, I am as proud to be from the South, a southerner, as anyone (I too grew up in North Carolina), and proud to be at UNC, a great southern university. I’m insulted, embarrassed, and ashamed that Mr. Neville, “a proud southerner” and a fellow Tar Heel, has not taken the time to learn or realize that there is far more to the South than the stereotypical attributes he described as the “sweet southern satisfaction.” There is more to southern food than barbecue and sweet tea, there is more than “a genre” of southern music (how about blues, gospel, rock ’n’ roll, and jazz in addition to the pop country you reference?), and there is an amazingly diverse population (how about African Americans, Native Americans, Latin Americans — or are they not southerners in your mythic world, Mr. Neville?). And I guess you couldn’t be bothered, but Taylor Swift is from Wyomissing.
I am writing today to call to attention a matter that deeply disturbs me in terms of my value as a student.

TO THE EDITOR: I am sick of Dick Baddour.
TO THE EDITOR: I have been appalled at the media witch hunt that has transpired since July, mostly because of the absence of due process. The local and regional newspapers and some of the television outlets have behaved like an angry mob hungry for a lynching. My suggestion since the investigation became public has been to wait until all the facts can be obtained before making any form of judgment. I spent nearly 20 years in the newspaper business, and I am embarrassed by the shameless, self-serving, corporate agendas that have been fanning the flames of these investigations. On Oct.
TO THE EDITOR: I was gratified to read your Oct.
At every football game, we sing about being “Tar Heel born” and “Tar Heel bred.” Even if our place of origin isn’t the South, we become southerners here.
Several complaints surrounding the behavior of two Chapel Hill solid waste workers have prompted a town-led investigation into the actions of these men. To be sure, the town’s investigation must be timely.
TO THE EDITOR: Last Monday, I joined 100 others, including world-renowned climate scientist Dr. James Hansen, in getting arrested at the White House while protesting mountaintop removal.
TO THE EDITOR: Monday’s editorial titled “Davis should go” (Oct.
TO THE EDITOR: To the person who wrote an editorial (“Davis should go,” Oct.
TO THE EDITOR: As Director of Athletics, I hired Butch Davis to lead our football program because he was an outstanding coach who shared the core values that we try to uphold at the University of North Carolina.
At the very heart of UNC’s mission statement lies a culture of diversity — an attitude of acceptance and a strong belief in progress.
In a presentation at UNC’s “First Amendment Day,” Robert Shibley, senior vice president for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), said that UNC is a “yellow light” school with respect to free speech.
