Police log for Feb. 3, 2012

Someone broke into and entered a vehicle at 115 S. Elliot Road between noon and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person broke a passenger window and stole items, reports state. Stolen items included an iPod valued at $150 and a car radio valued at $200, according to police reports. Damage to the red 1991 Honda Civic was valued at $300, reports state.

Someone willfully vandalized property at 179 E. Franklin St. at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. People were attaching protest posters to mailboxes outside of the U.S. Post Office, reports state.

Someone was reported for assault and for damaging property at 1105 Highway 54 bypass at 4:17 a.m. Monday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person damaged windows with a log, causing minor injuries to occupants of the home, police reports state. Damage to the two windows was valued at $100, according to police reports.

Two females entered into a business and stole a pair of shoes at about 3:10 p.m. Thursday at Rack Room Shoes at 1800 E. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. The Life Stride shoes were valued at $49, according to police reports.

Someone vandalized a trash bin at 105 Red Bud Lane between 10 p.m. Friday and 10:15 a.m. Saturday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person spray painted a trash bin overnight, reports state. Damage to the trash bin was valued at $50, according to police reports.

Chapel Hill police responded to a report of fighting in a parking lot area at the 700 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at about 1:17 a.m. Friday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Reports state that people at the scene were verbally arguing and looking for an altercation.

Someone lost a wallet between 7:25 a.m. and noon Monday at 391 Summerwalk Circle, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The wallet was valued at $10 and contained $40 worth of cash, a driver’s license, two credit cards and a military dependent ID card, reports state.

Someone stole firewood from a single family residence 401 Sharon Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The theft occurred between 3:40 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to reports. Reports state that the firewood was valued at about $40.

Shooting victim's family questions racial profiling complaint

The family of the man slain in the Dec. 11 shooting on Ashley Forest Drive has spoken out against a racial profiling complaint made in the shooting’s wake that day by a UNC student. Stephanie Openshaw, sister of shooting victim Drew C. Frasure, 41, said reading about junior Cameron Horne’s complaint was a difficult experience.
