Gay UNC student attacked, burned in hate crime

UNC freshman Quinn Matney was walking on South Campus last week when a nearby man came up, grabbed him by the wrist and burned him with an unknown object. Matney, who faces third- and fourth-degree burns, reported the incident to campus police, who have classified the incident as a hate crime.

Police log for April 7, 2010

A 22-year-old Carrboro man was charged with larceny by an employee at 3:34 p.m. Tuesday at 1509 E. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Xavier Kobree Hill was arrested after he stole from The Pantry at 1509 E.

Student arrested for drug charges in relation to armed robbery

A student linked to the armed robbery Monday at Morrison Residence Hall was arrested Tuesday on drug and alcohol charges, police said. Dylan Michael D’Joseph, 19, of High Point, was charged Tuesday morning with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of distributing drugs, along with possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol.

After armed robbery, student arrested on drug charges

A UNC student linked to Monday’s armed robbery at Morrison Residence Hall was arrested Tuesday on drug and alcohol charges, police said. The charges came one day after police say he and four other students were lined up in a third floor suite and robbed at gunpoint.

Someone was shooting at cars between 5:38 p.m. and 5:48 p.m. Monday on the 700 block of Pritchard Ave., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone entered a residence through the basement door and stole $35,321 worth of jewelry and other items between 8 a.m.

Campus police defend decision to not use Alert Carolina for Morrison robbery

More than 48 hours after an armed robbery in Morrison Residence Hall, police have yet to arrest one of the two men involved. And as the search and investigation continues, University officials said Tuesday that siren and mass-text notification systems were not used because police deemed the incident as isolated to the victims — and found that the 26-year- old suspect, Michael DeAngelo Williamson, had already left the campus area.
