Police looking for male intruder

Between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. Friday, an unidentified man entered the houses of two groups of students living off campus. Chapel Hill police spokesman Lt. Kevin Gunter said in both cases the man entered through unlocked front doors, after which he entered the bedrooms of three students. He left upon his discovery each time.

Police log for February 25, 2011

Someone attempted to enter a residence by pushing out the window between 9 a.m. Monday and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1510 Village Crossing Drive, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person caused $100 in damage to the screen window, $200 in damage to the window, and $250 in damage to two doors, reports state.

Fire official impersonator still at large

A man has been using the guise of a fire inspector to gain entry into several local businesses, and he could be linked to crimes in Fayetteville, Chapel Hill Fire Marshal Matt Lawrence said. At least two Sage Road businesses encountered the man Monday, and at least four businesses in Durham reported similar incidents.

Someone stole a beige 2003 Buick Regal between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 431 W. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. The vehicle was worth $4,500, reports state.

A 21-year-old Hillsbourough man was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, maintaining a vehicle used to keep or sell a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, a window tint violation and driving left of center at 2:21 a.m.

Someone struck a victim with a garbage can at 4:51 a.m. Thursday at 1250 Ephesus Church Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Dogs were barking and acting aggressive at 1:45 p.m.
