A gray 2003 Ford LGT was set on fire at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday at 317 Edisto Court, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The truck sustained $300 in damage, reports state.

Police log for December 7, 2010

A 29-year-old man was charged with indecent exposure and trespassing at 3:34 p.m. Friday at East Chapel Hill High School at 500 Weaver Dairy Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Brian Eugene McLaughlin was arrested by a student resource officer, reports state. He was taken to Orange County Jail in lieu of a $500 bond, reports state.

Someone broke the window of a silver 2007 Toyota Prius between 1 a.m. and 4:51 a.m. Friday at 105 Homewood Drive, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole a cell phone worth $150 and $25 worth of sports and recreation equipment. Damage to the vehicle was valued at $9,500, reports state.

Someone broke into a 2003 Toyota Corolla between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 1:03 p.m. Wednesday at 265 Severin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone stole a commercial leaf blower between 9 a.m. Nov. 1 and 9 a.m. Nov. 8 from a stand-alone shed on South Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The leaf blower, which was reported stolen Wednesday, was valued at $2,500, reports state.

Chapel Hill police police seek suspect in counterfeit check fraud

The Chapel Hill Police Department is currently searching for a suspect who passed a fraudulent check at about 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the BB&T on East Rosemary Street, according to a press release. The individual is also suspected of passing similar counterfeit checks around the area, the press release states. Police are seeking help in identifying the suspect and ask that anyone with information call either the Chapel Hill Police Department at 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7515.

An intoxicated person damaged property at 3:48 a.m. Sunday at 222 Barclay Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person did $50 in damage to the rear door and $100 in damage to the mail box, reports state.

Two 18-year-old men were arrested after a crash on misdemeanor charges of speeding, reckless driving and racing at 8:17 p.m. Saturday at 466 W. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. John Quinton Rives, 18, of Durham was arrested and released to his parents under a written promise to appear in court, reports state. Andrew Landis Patrick, 18, of Chapel Hill was arrested on an additional misdemeanor charge of failure to slow down to avoid an accident. He was given a written promise to appear in court and released to his parents, reports state.

Prisoner escape may be due to officers' errors at UNC Hospitals

Correction department officers might have been responsible for the Tuesday escape of a prisoner receiving treatment at UNC Hospitals, said Bob Lewis, director of the N.C. Division of Prisons. Lewis said Friday that the inmate, 46-year-old Farley Linford Bernard, was not handcuffed or restrained in any way when he was captured Tuesday, indicating that the officers failed to follow proper procedure.

Prisoner flees UNC Hospitals and crashes a police car

A prisoner receiving medical treatment was arrested Tuesday after police say he escaped from UNC Hospitals, stole a campus police car and led officers on a high-speed pursuit. Farley Linford Bernard, 46, was arrested on Interstate 40 westbound at about 1:30 p.m. after wrecking the police cruiser near Mebane, in Alamance County.
