A home at 109 Weatherhill Point in Carrboro shows burn damage after what investigators said was arson. The home was an Oxford House.

Carborro fire traced to ex-boyfriend

Carrboro investigators are saying the early November arson of a recovery house for substance abusers was at the hand of one resident’s ex-boyfriend. Paul Martin, 48, of Durham, was charged with second-degree arson, felony breaking and entering and larceny Nov. 5 after starting a fire at a residence at 109 Weatherhill Point, said Chris Atack, Carrboro Police Department investigator.

Someone broke into a black 2004 Chevy Tahoe between 11 p.m. Thursday and 7:50 a.m. Friday at 302 Oak Tree Drive, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The person stole a digital camera worth $200, $30 in CDs and caused $170 in damage to a window and the dash, reports state.

Someone damaged a residence using eggs and fecal matter between 1:30 a.m. Nov. 1 and 5 p.m. Tuesday at 303 McDade St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Damage to the structure of the house was valued at $5, reports state.

College Republican's Berlin Wall display stolen

Unlike the original Berlin Wall, which fell to great public spectacle in 1989, a replica made by UNC College Republicans quietly disappeared Tuesday morning on the 21st anniversary of the wall’s fall. The group planned to tear down the mock wall as part of the Young America’s Foundation Freedom Week and has reported the theft to campus police.

UNC junior freed on bail

A UNC student arrested Friday on several drug-related charges in Wilmington was released Monday on a $25,000 bond following his initial court appearance. Dan Paustian, a 21-year-old junior, was arrested Friday after police received information he and another man would be selling cocaine, said Lucy Crockett, spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department.

Chapel Hill police charge 'Repeat Robber' Monday

Lee Bennett Pope III, 37, was charged Monday with common law robbery of the BB&T bank at 143 E. Rosemary St. on Oct. 5, according to The (Raleigh) News & Observer. Pope, dubbed the “Repeat Robber” by authorities, was arrested in Durham Oct. 25 by Raleigh and Durham police on an outstanding violation warrant, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.

A car hit a deer at 10:04 a.m. Saturday at 980 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone stole $6,000 worth of clothing and furs between 3:09 p.m. and 3:31 p.m. Saturday at 1800 E. Franklin St., according to Chapel Hill police reports.
