Police Log for March 17, 2010

A 19-year-old Durham man was charged with misdemeanor attempted larceny after trying to steal a sign at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill at 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Randall David Strand-Poole was released on a written promise to appear in court, reports state.

Police log for March 16, 2010

Somebody pried open a window to enter a residence and stole nearly $1,500 in items between 9:01 p.m. Saturday and 10:34 a.m. Sunday at 316 McMasters St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. Items stolen include a $340 Wii game system, a $50 jewelry box, $1,000 worth of jewelry, some of it designer, and $57 in cash, reports state.

Police log for March 15, 2010

A 24-year-old Chapel Hill man was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Saturday at Kildare’s Irish Pub for damage to property and drunk and disruptive behavior, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Matthew McClellan Morrison did $350 worth of damage to a screen and was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Someone stole a car from a parking lot between midnight Feb. 23 and 9 p.m. Sunday at Pinegate Circle, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The $3,000 Ford Crown Victoria was recovered intact, except for the $10 steering wheel cover, reports state.

Chapel Hill police officers assisted Emergency Medical Services at 12:36 a.m. Sunday at the Pi Kappa Alpha house at 106 Fraternity Court, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Drugs and/or alcohol were involved, and minor injuries were sustained, reports state.

Rape reported off campus

Someone was forcibly raped at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at an apartment on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The rape occurred at a party, Police Capt. Jackie Carden said. The victim was in her late teens and did not know her assailant, Carden said.The police have a suspect, Carden said.

Somebody broke into a residence and stole $4,785 in property between 2:30 p.m. and 3:31 p.m. Tuesday at 215 N. Graham St., according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole two laptops collectively worth $4,200 and $585 worth of jewelry, reports state.

Police cited two UNC students for unlawful burning after setting a campfire at Umstead Park at 2:41 p.m. Tuesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Brandon Fremd and David Jaramillo, both 22 years old, are scheduled to appear in district court March 22, reports state.

A 19-year-old Duke University student was cited at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at 100 S. Columbia St. for blocking the intersection of Franklin and Columbia streets, according to Chapel Hill police reports.Ciaran Justice O’Connor was issued a citation for dancing in the road and blocking traffic. He awaits a March 16 court date, reports state.

A 57-year-old man was arrested for fraudulently obtaining property and identity theft around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Franklin Street and Church Street, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Johnnie Roosevelt Cooper was arrested based on five felony warrants, reports state. He was transported to Orange County Jail and held under a $5,000 secured bond, reports state.
