Police log for Jan. 13

Someone broke the back window of an apartment and stole $3,200 worth of jewelry between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The stolen jewelry included a $400 strand of pearls and two diamond rings valued at $2,000, reports state.

Police log for Jan. 12

Somebody broke into a shed on a property at 2400 Homestead Road and took $6,650 worth of copper wiring between 8 a.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The person also damaged two storage shed door locks worth $25, reports state.

Man sought in $20 robbery

Police are looking for a man who reportedly stole four $5 bills from the Kangaroo Express at 1501 E. Franklin St., according to a Chapel Hill Police Department news release.The clerk reported that the man, who was caught on surveillance, walked into the gas station store and asked for change for a dollar, the news release states.

Woman reports kidnap, assault

A 19-year-old woman reported this weekend that she was kidnapped and beaten by two men on Nov. 28, according to Chapel Hill police Lt. Kevin Gunter. At about 2 a.m. that Saturday, as she was leaving Bailey’s Pub & Grill on Fordham Boulevard, two men in black masks, one of whom showed her that he was armed with a gun, approached her, she told police.

A 28-year-old Ithaca, N.Y., man was arrested for possession of 7.5 grams of marijuana, 13 counts of violating a domestic violence protection order and two counts of failure to appear in court at 3:55 p.m. Sunday at 110 W. A 25-year-old Durham man was charged with possession of 1.5 grams of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or distribute 0.9 grams of crack cocaine and maintaining a dwelling at 6:30 a.m. Friday at 751 Trinity Court, according to Chapel Hill police reports.  Maurice Jerome McPherson of 751 Pritchard Ave.

Police seek help in business break-ins

Chapel Hill police have responded to 11 business break-ins since Nov. 18, and they're seeking help in their investigation. The businesses targeted were at Timberlyne Shopping Center on Weaver Dairy Road, Rams Plaza at Fordham Boulevard and the Village Plaza on South Elliott Road, according to a Chapel Hill Police Department news relase.

Someone broke into a white 1999 Volkswagen Passat GLS between 10 p.m. Saturday and 11:01 a.m. Sunday at 101 Isley Street, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole $1,843 in items, including a laptop computer worth $1,500, reports state.

One dead, one injured after crash in stolen car

One man died and another was seriously injured after crashing into a tree in a stolen car on Old N.C. 86 on Monday night, state troopers said.Pending notification of family, the name of the person who died cannot be released, N.C. Highway Patrol trooper Mark Melvin said.

Someone broke into a red 1993 Jeep Cherokee between 4:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:07 p.m. Tuesday at 2701 Homestead Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole a jack worth $100 and did $200 worth of damage to the car’s stereo. Damage to the passenger’s side window was estimated at $150, reports state.
