Police seek help in business break-ins

Chapel Hill police have responded to 11 business break-ins since Nov. 18, and they're seeking help in their investigation. The businesses targeted were at Timberlyne Shopping Center on Weaver Dairy Road, Rams Plaza at Fordham Boulevard and the Village Plaza on South Elliott Road, according to a Chapel Hill Police Department news relase.

Someone smashed the glass door of Cafe Parvaneh at 400 S. Elliott Road between 5:15 a.m. and 5:20 a.m. Sunday, according to Chapel Hill police reports.The person caused $500 worth of damage to the door, reports state.Someone broke into the Framer’s Market and Gallery at 1748 Fordham Blvd. at 5:06 a.m. Sunday, according to Chapel Hill police reports.

Two people used a handgun to rob a B.P. gas station at 12:14 p.m. Saturday at 1201 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., according to Chapel Hill police reports. They stole $200 in cash and $100 worth of Newport tobacco products, reports state.

Someone broke into a white 1999 Volkswagen Passat GLS between 10 p.m. Saturday and 11:01 a.m. Sunday at 101 Isley Street, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole $1,843 in items, including a laptop computer worth $1,500, reports state.

One dead, one injured after crash in stolen car

One man died and another was seriously injured after crashing into a tree in a stolen car on Old N.C. 86 on Monday night, state troopers said.Pending notification of family, the name of the person who died cannot be released, N.C. Highway Patrol trooper Mark Melvin said.

A 28-year-old man was arrested for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer after being stopped for a fictitious license plate at 12:35 a.m. at 201 S. Estes Drive, according to Chapel Hill police reports.Abdulai Kamara was taken to Orange County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 bond, reports state.

Someone broke into a red 1993 Jeep Cherokee between 4:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:07 p.m. Tuesday at 2701 Homestead Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole a jack worth $100 and did $200 worth of damage to the car’s stereo. Damage to the passenger’s side window was estimated at $150, reports state.

Someone stole two tires from a Toyota Corolla between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 6:45 a.m. Monday at 1809 N. Fordham Blvd., according to Chapel Hill police reports. The tires were worth $100, reports state. The person also caused $50 in damage to a window, reports state.

Orange County Schools board member found guilty of DWI

An Orange County Schools board of education member was found guilty today of driving while impared, assistant district attorney Jeff Nieman said.Ted Triebel, a former chairman of the board, received the lightest sentence for his crime: 30 days with a suspended license, a court fee and a community services fee, Nieman said.

25-year-old Carrboro man was arrested for felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor damage to real property at 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Ian Michael Curl was arrested at 508 North St. and transported to the Orange County Jail, where he was held in lieu of $1,000 bond, reports state.

One person stole an impact drill worth $80 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Nov. 2, reports state. Someone stole more tools between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 5. The tools were collectively worth $175, reports state.

Someone broke into Kappa Sigma fraternity between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday at at 204 W. Cameron Ave., according to Chapel Hill police reports. The person stole two laptop computers worth $2,000 each, an XBox 360 worth $300 and a DVD of “Superbad” worth $20, reports state.

After an argument at 128 Johnson St. , one brother stabbed the other in the left temple with what was described as a steak knife at 9:32 p.m., said poslice Lt. Kevin Gunter. Gregory Phillips Jenkins, 54, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury .
