Gymnastics Wins First Meet of Year

The North Carolina gymnastics team defeated William & Mary 191.850-187.850 in the Tar Heels' first meet of the 2001 season Sunday.UNC senior Brooke Wilson placed first on all apparatuses, and the Tar Heels took the top four spots in the all-around. Wilson finished first in the all-around (39.375) by virtue of her top finishes on vault (9.8250), uneven bars (9.775), balance beam (9.925) and floor (9.850).Junior Monica Middleton placed second in the all-around with a score of 38.150.

UNC Tennis Warms Up In Tourney

The North Carolina women's tennis team struggled last season.Injuries and inexperience combined to thwart a return to the NCAA tournament.UNC began the 2001 season with a strong opening statement in the Carolina Indoor Tournament this weekend. The North Carolina women's basketball team knew that Virginia's 6-foot-3 forward Schuye LaRue would score her points Thursday night. Julius Peppers announced Thursday that he will not leave school after his sophomore season and enter this year's NFL Draft. UNC Athletes Earn Postseason Honors

From Staff ReportsNorth Carolina men's soccer players Chris Carrieri and Danny Jackson were named to the 2000 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America Team. Carrieri, who led the nation in scoring this season, was named to the first team. Jackson, the leader of the Tar Heel defense, was named to the third team. Carrieri, the ACC Player of the Year, set UNC school records for goals and points in a season this fall. He led the ACC in points (64), goals (25), scoring (2.67 points per game) and goals per game (1.04).
