Students choose Congress members

Forty-one new members of Student Congress were elected to serve in the 2010-11 legislative branch of student government on Tuesday night.Congress allocates money through an annual budget process and throughout the year during the subsequent appropriations process. Congress allocated about $364,000 during the 2009-10 annual budget.

Communication studies group funded

Correction (1:13 a.m. Jan. 22):Due to a reporting error, and earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Student Congress representative Lee Storrow voted in favor of appropriating student fee money to the Communication Studies Graduate Student Association and ScreenArts. Students fast to raise money

About 300 people on campus didn’t eat or drink between 5:22 a.m. and 7:34 p.m. Wednesday, avoiding water fountains and enduring growling stomachs. Whether Muslim or just interested in the annual monthlong holiday, participants in the Fast-A-Thon fundraiser abstained from food and drink to appreciate the plight of the hungry and poor while improving their inner spirituality. The event, inspired by the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, was sponsored by the Muslim Students Association.

Cabinet Kickoff a success

Student government's executive branch introduced its officers and committee chairmen Saturday at the Cabinet Kickoff a three-hour retreat aimed at discussing roles for the coming year.Although the executive branch has had cabinet retreats in the past this is the first one in at least the last three years.
