Pinchbeck Paces Men's Tennis

You could say that Daniel Pinchbeck had another easy day.After barely breaking a sweat against Furman and West Virginia, the Australian freshman had won 32 consecutive games.The streak progressed to 52 on Monday as the North Carolina men's tennis team smothered Campbell 7-0 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

After three years as head coach of University of North Carolina women's tennis, Roland Thornqvist has been named to the same position at the University of Florida.In three years, UNC compiled a 42-30 record under Thornqvist and appeared in the NCAA Tournament all three years."The University of Florida offers the best opportunity for me and my family," Thornqvist said.

North Carolina's Marlene Mejia earned this week's ACC women's tennis player of the week honor.Mejia, 14th-ranked nationally, finished last week with victories against No. 2 Ansley Cargill of Duke, Virginia's Henriette Williams and Maryland's Delila Causevic. Mejia's only loss of the week was to No. 6 Bea Bielik of Wake Forest.

UNC Tennis Warms Up In Tourney

The North Carolina women's tennis team struggled last season.Injuries and inexperience combined to thwart a return to the NCAA tournament.UNC began the 2001 season with a strong opening statement in the Carolina Indoor Tournament this weekend. The Tar Heels held their own against William & Mary and Texas, ranked 6th and 15th respectively in the nation.
