In a 72-63 loss to Virginia Tech, UNC women's basketball goes cold from deep

North Carolina women’s basketball coach Courtney Banghart has preached this all season: To win, her team either needs to consistently make 3-pointers or consistently defend opponents behind the arc. Against Virginia Tech on Sunday, the Tar Heels did neither. In a 72-63 loss to the Hokies, UNC went just 1-11 on 3-pointers (a season-low 9.1 percent) and allowed their opponent to make six.

For the past three and a half seasons, Taylor Koenen has been one of the most consistent players for UNC women's basketball, appearing in over 100 games and amassing over 1000 points, 700 rebounds and 300 assists.  For the players inside the program, her legacy will be built on the type of person she was off the court. 'Another sixth man': Banghart's energy gives UNC optimism despite loss to N.C. State

Despite UNC’s 76-68 loss to N.C. State on Sunday, the team’s optimism hasn’t wavered, in large part thanks to head coach Courtney Banghart. The Tar Heels have trailed at halftime in their last seven games, and though they’ve only come back to win three times in that stretch, they’ve shown promise. Aside from a 14-point road loss to No. 14 Florida State two weeks ago, UNC hasn't fallen by more than seven points this season. “That’s the team I’ve got, a group of fighters,” Banghart said. “That’s what I expected, and that’s what I got.”

The Tar Heels came to Raleigh looking to topple the No. 8 Wolfpack for the second time this season. But they left with more frustration toward the game’s referees than toward anything they did too poorly or N.C. State did too well.

UNC women's basketball rolls with the punches in blowout win over Miami

After riding the high of a europhic win over rival No. 9 N.C. State last week, UNC women's basketball fell back to Earth when it lost to another top-15 opponent in Florida State on Sunday by double digits.
