Cannizzaro puts up a fight in UNC women’s lacrosse loss to Duke

At the end of the North Carolina women’s lacrosse team’s match with Duke, Kara Cannizzaro headed to the athletic trainer to get ice for her forearm, bruised in the last play of the game. The sophomore midfielder’s minor battle wound was proof of her aggressive play against the Blue Devils. But the sophomore midfielder’s efforts weren’t enough to stage a comeback, and Duke’s Kim Wenger forced a Cannizzaro turnover with 29 seconds left to foil her last minute score-tying attempt.

The North Carolina women’s lacrosse team turned the ball over with 30 seconds left in the ACC season finale to seal its 11-10 loss to Duke on Friday night. UNC turned in its second-worst draw control margin of the season, losing the fight for possession 15 times to only eight wins.

Late-game offense pushes UNC men’s lacrosse past Dartmouth 12-7

For the first 57 minutes of their 12-7 win against Dartmouth, it looked like a game the North Carolina men’s lacrosse attackers would soon forget. The Tar Heels had to fight tooth-and-nail to scratch out a two-goal advantage with 13:12 left. With less than three minutes left, the Tar Heel offense underwent nothing short of an offensive explosion, giving UNC four goals in the game’s dying minutes. “We started listening to our coaching,” junior Jimmy Dunster said.

With Levy’s 200th win, the Tar Heels have proved they can send a team to the grave even without drawing first blood. “It’s focusing on getting the ball, then being patient on offense, but attacking when it’s there,” Donahoe said. “It’s about making smart decisions on the field and we did that a lot better today.”
