'We get championships': Reliving the highs, lows of UNC women's soccer's 1990 title run

2020 is the 30th anniversary of the 1990 UNC women's soccer NCAA Championship team, one of the greatest collegiate teams in soccer history. The Tar Heels saw their 103 no-loss streak snapped after a 3-2 loss to Connecticut after a questionable call and free kick En route to a national championship, North Carolina defeated N.C. State on a last minute goal in a game dubbed the "Greatest Game in Women's Soccer History." UNC avenged its loss to UConn in the NCAA Championship, defeating the Huskies 6-0, with the largest margin of victory in NCAA history to that point.

'Our best result of the year': UNC women's soccer defeats Clemson to stay unbeaten

Despite the lack of attendance, the ACC No. 1 North Carolina women’s soccer team (4-0-0, 4-0-0 ACC) brought the energy on both sides of the ball in a dominant 2-0 win against ACC No. 3 Clemson (3-1-0, 2-1-0 ACC).    While the second half was scoreless,  North Carolina maintained its intensity until the final whistle. The team finished with a 13-6 lead in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.  With the Tar Heels' win on Thursday, they moved to 4-0 on the season, outscoring their opponents 9-1.

UNC men's and women's soccer teams raise money to fight childhood cancer

“We have several young women that we are very conscious of now that are fighting and we have had several players that have contracted cancer in a very aggressive way," coach Anson Dorrance said. Marking the beginning of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, UNC’s soccer teams are working together to raise money for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

NCAA cancels Division I fall championships, football still allowed to play

NCAA President Mark Emmert announced Thursday evening that the NCAA is canceling all 2020 Division I fall championships. This announcement comes eight days after the Division II Presidents Council and Division III Presidents Council each canceled their respective fall championships. The NCAA will attempt to have the championships in the spring. Fall sports teams will still be allowed to participate in a regular season schedule, but they will not have a chance to win a national title.
