Crawley headlines UNC women's tennis' play in NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship

This past week, several members of the North Carolina women’s tennis team competed in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship held in Champaign, Ill., contributing two doubles teams and five individual athletes. Sophomore Fiona Crawley reached the singles semifinals as the last Tar Heel competitor standing, before losing to No. 26 Connie Ma of Stanford.

UNC graduate thrower Jill Shippee: ACC record-holder and student-athlete advocate

As a star goalkeeper at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y., UNC track and field star Jill Shippee initially had her sights set on playing soccer in college.  In the fall of 2017, Shippee came into the UNC track and field program as a first-year on the throwing squad. She staked her claim inside the circle instantly.  Now, as a graduate student closing out her last track season as a Tar Heel, Shippee holds the school and ACC women’s hammer throw record of 69.76 meters.

No. 1 UNC women's tennis tops No. 8 Pepperdine, 4-3, to advance to NCAA Final Four

The No. 1 North Carolina women’s tennis team narrowly defeated the No. 8 Pepperdine Waves, 4-3, to advance to the NCAA Final Four. The deciding factor turned out to be junior Anika Yarlagadda, who claimed a win over Pepperdine’s Nikki Redelijk, who was inserted into the Wave’s lineup after an injury occurred early in the doubles. Coming up strong in the second and third sets on her court, Yarlagadda won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the win for the Tar Heels.

UNC women's rowing 1V8 crew wins petite title at the ACC Rowing Championships

This weekend, the North Carolina women’s rowing team traveled to Clemson, S.C., to compete in the ACC Championship regatta against some of the top teams in the country. UNC’s First Varsity Eight received the team’s first winning spot in the championship when they defeated both Notre Dame and Boston College to close out North Carolina’s time on the water.
