There goes the neighborhood
By MICHAEL TODD | February 28Learideen Alford's house has a few rooms and just one view: of a brick wall and new wooden fence separating her 94-year-old home from the Rosemary Village condominiums. "I can't sneeze without them hearing me," Alford said, looking out from her kitchen window, which faces the four-story buildings. Alford's 1,268 square-foot house at 209 Mitchell Lane sits about 13 feet from the northeastern corner of the condos - a little too close for comfort, she said. This 30-year Chapel Hill resident is one of several witnessing the downtown's large-scale growth from inside their own homes.
